A country climbed for almost one thousand meters of altitude

The municipality of Valda stretches across the southern slopes of Monte Novaline at 795 m. The area seems to have been inhabited since ancient times, as shown by the finding of a hoe dating back to the iron age, now kept in the Buonconsiglio Museum in Trento. The area was probably colonised by German farmers in the middle ages. The name of the town itself comes from the German word Wald, meaning "wood".
