Between vineyards and fine wines

The municipality of Giovo is composed of 8 hamlets, all located on glacial moraines in very sunny positions. The administrative centre  of the municipality is Verla, and Masén is the main tourist resort. Apparently, Giovo derives from the Latin Iuvum or Zuvum, which would indicate the mountain pass. As throughout the low and mid Cembra Valley, vine cultivation also predominates in the Giovo territory. Here, too, the vines grow on the steep, sunny slopes that descend down towards the Avisio. For many centuries, man has made incalculable sacrifices to model this unique landscape, transforming the steep mountainsides that slope down towards the rushing torrent, into a great number of gently descending terraces, supported by kilometres of dry stone walls. The grapes from these vineyards produce excellent wines.
