Grauno rises on the right bank of the River Avisio at an altitude of 968 m. This is the highest town of the Cembra Valley, on the border of the Fiemme Valley. Clinging onto the steep southern slopes of the Dosse Del Colle, it has the typical terraces that gradually descend towards the Avisio and which were mainly used for vine cultivation until the end of the second world war. It is one of the towns of the Cembra area that still maintains its traditional architectonic structure, with the houses built one against the other, a great number of gates, fountains and beautiful balconies. In recent years, the cultivation of forest fruits has become widespread (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries and gooseberries). The town is surrounded by woods, and the timber of this area has always been an important source of income for the people.
